Eldad Vesehoo

This busy restaurant, with a few extra tables set outside in summer, is famous for its terrific lunch specials offered Sunday to Thursday until 5:30pm, and until 5pm on Friday. It’s also famous for its meats. For under NIS 50 ($11), you can get a two-course lunch special that includes the best chunk of sirloin in town, cooked as you want it, or a very fresh whole fish. For under NIS 41 ($9), there’s a choice of elegant French goulash, or chicken and lamb dishes, all served with a choice of French sauces, rice or potato, and vegetable.

At these prices, you could barely get two greasy hamburgers, a Coke, and an order of fries elsewhere. In summer, a fine cold yogurt, garlic, and cucumber soup is a much-loved first course on the luncheon special list. There’s also an upscale complete luncheon special in the NIS 68 ($15) range; and at night, a large a la carte menu with prices that triple the lunch special rates. Lunchtime service is very speedy, so you don’t have to plan for a long repast if your time is short.
