Sanhedrian Tombs

Go up Shmuel Ha-Navi, off Shivtei Israel Street, to northeast Jerusalem’s beautiful public gardens of Sanhedria. Here you look at the Tombs of the Sanhedria or the Tombs of the Judges, where the judges of ancient Israel’s “Supreme Court” (during the 1st and 2nd c., before the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and banned Jewish residence in the area) are buried. The three-story burial catacomb is intricately carved from rock.
